Blandford Forum, Dorset DT11 7HQ United Kingdom
About the Blandford Town MuseumThe Museum holds a wealth of artefacts and archives from Prehistoric to the present day. We hold archives for people researching local history, their family history, militaria and railways and exhibitions on the Blandford area through its history. We also share information and learning boxes with schools and have active learning programmes for all ages. The Blandford Museum interacts with the local community through a variety of special inter est clubs. When you join the museum as a member you may want to choose to be affiliated with one of several museum clubs, the information about which can be accessed by the links below. The Museum Garden Club does a wonderful job tending our authentic Victorian Garden producing plants, jams, and chutneys, which are available to buy in the shop. They meet each week and serve refreshments on their workdays. The Museum’s Living History Project is working on recording oral histories from people in Blandford and the surrounding villages both through sound and other media, finding and digitising old film/video/photographs, and recording current events for future historians. The Blandford Museum Archaeology Club meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:30pm in the museum for talks and at other times for special visits to sites. They also hold “Finds Day” several times a year and a fabulous Quiz Night each year.
The museum is now open on Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Special visits for small groups can be arranged on other days by contacting the museum by email and making arrangements with the Director.
The ground floor is open, but the upstairs is still temporarily closed. Masks or face shields are required. Test and Trace is being followed.
