Wrist warmers with Dorset Buttons

I have made these lovely wrist warmers every Christmas for the last three years. Each year I change the pattern. This year I have used a standard rib with one of the lovely designs from the Japanese Knitting and Stitching Bible by Gayle Roehn. Each wrist warmer featured a Dorset Button work in the same yarn.

There are three colours to choose from:
The natural colour is knitted in 75% Merino Wool 20% Silk 5% Cashmere
The light and dark rose are worked in 85% British Bluefaced Leicester, 15% silk

The length of each pair is 12cm (approx) and they will stretch to 9cm from side to side when flat. This will make an overall wrist circumference of 18cm. Please all for a small discrepancy as these are my own measurement using wooden ruler.

The Dorset Buttons Industry originated in Shaftesbury in the 1620s and became major cottage industry throughout Dorset creating employment for many families. By the 1780s 4,000 women and children were employed in the industry. Dorset Buttons were replaced by machine buttons during the first half of the 1800s.
